Are You A Unwanted Thinker

Anna sought my assistance because of her chronic fatigue. She was going to various types of doctors and trying different nutrition strategies for decades and nothing was helping her. One of the doctors suggested she try psychotherapy.

In became apparent early in our work together than Anna was deeply addicted to thinking the worst. Constant negativity went through her mind about each facet of her own life. She'd get out of her vehicle and worry about getting robbed. In social situations, she would tell herself that folks did not like her. She was always worried about money, even though she was a successful graphic designer. Her husband can never do anything right. There was something wrong with every doctor she saw.

Negative thinking causes much stress in the human body. I told Anna to envision that she had been telling these negative thoughts to a child. How would the child feel the majority of the time? Anna could see this child would, needless to say, feel stressed and stressed much of this time in response to all of the negativity and catastrophic thinking.

The medical profession has long told us that stress is just one of the main causes of sickness. Pressure sets into motion the body's fight or flight response, pouring endorphins into the human body and eventually exhausting the adrenal glands. Adrenal exhaustion may be among the results of a lot of negative thinking.

Even though Anna could comprehend the possible effect her negative thinking was having on her health, it was extremely tough for her to give her side thinking. Anna deeply thought that her negative thinking kept her safe out of disappointment. She thought that thinking the negative idea before the terrible thing would occur prepared her to handle it. She didn't wish to get caught off guard. She thought that she could not handle the pain of disappointment, so that if she ever knew about it ahead of time and actually anticipated it, she wouldn't feel disappointed.

Additionally, Anna considered that when she had been vigilant and thought through all the bad things that could happen, she would avert them. She said that by thinking forward, she would somehow have control over the outcome of things.

Eventually, Anna also thought that she could control how folks felt about her from acting straight and saying the right thing. She was always vigilant about her behavior with others in her attempts to control the way they felt concerning her and treated her again.

However, in attempting to restrain her feelings, others' feelings as well as the results of things, Anna may have been causing her illness. The root cause of her negative thinking was her dedication to this control.

The problem with all of this is that it is founded on an illusion -- the illusion of hands. The fact is that Anna could not foresee every event which could cause her some discomfort. She had been devastated every time something happened that she had not thought of ahead. How could something painful come out of the blue like this? How can she haven't foreseen it?

The paradox of all this is that, even in trying to foresee future catastrophes, Anna was not present in the moment. Real safety is at being present in the moment so we are able to respond appropriately to what is happening in the present time. When we are fully present at the moment, we are available to receiving information from our internal Guidance. All of us have a Source of Info that's always available to us, and that is here to help us and protect us. But we could get our Guidance only when we are fully present in the moment, not when we're attempting to control the foreseeable future.

Anna is in the process of becoming more conscious of the negative thinking. She is not yet healthful, but she's got some much better days today, days that are more affordable and more fun.

Moving out of negative thinking is a process which takes time. If you're a negative thinker, you have been practicing this form of thinking your whole life. It's not likely to stop a day. But if you tune into the anxiety you are feeling and learn how to connect your stress with your negative thinking, you're able to slowly alter this pattern.

Vitality and pleasure can be the end result of letting go of your negative thinking and learning to be present in the moment.
